Corner - Honda A/C Pointers![]()
Honda A/C Pointers
After repairing the A/C system on some early to mid-eighties Honda vehicles, we have occasionally found the low side to have restriction problems. Replacing the expansion valve has proved to be only a temporary fix, as the valve will eventually clog again.
The problem seems to be caused by deterioration of the inside of the rubber A/C hoses. Rubber pieces flake off the hoses, then plug up the expansion valve. In some cases, premature compressor failure results.
The only permanent repair when this situation occurs is to replace all the high-pressure rubber A/C hoses, along with the receiver/drier. This problem does not seem to afflict all Hondas in this age range, but it pays to be on the look-out for the problem none the less.
