Corner - Cleanup Tool![]()
Cleanup Tool
After removing a pressed-in ball joint, bushing, wheel bearing, or other part that fits into a machined hole, it pays to take a few moments to clean the hole thoroughly before installing the new part. This can prevent galling of the new part, or the machined hole. To clean out the receiving hole:
- Construct a home-made hone consisting of a cotter pin and a strip of emery cloth.
- Slip the emery cloth through the legs of the cotter pin, then clamp the cotter pin in you electric drill chuck.
- Slip the hone into the hole, then turn your drill on low. The flapping emery cloth will remove any rust or debris from the hole.
